So, after a long struggle also the TATA's could not find a place in WB for their new nano project which could have been a boon for the state. First I will give a general info about the topic. TATA tried to home their new innovation in the Singur district of West Bengal. But this could not happen after they fought a mental war with the CPI-M supremo Mamata Banerjee. Mamata, who was fighting for the rights of the farmers finally succeeded in her motive.
The points which finally led into this big mess are:
1. With the land amendment made by CPI-M and its left allies some decades earlier, the ownership papers of the land should be with their owners. But they could not work out this properly due to which many of the farmers are still unable to prove their right over the land. So, finally the papers remained with government which showed its negative consequence in the recent past. Govt. passed on the ownership papers to the TATA's on their demand of land.
2. In w.b. every gram panchayat has to be contacted bfore any land transaction, while in this case TATA's did not consult d gram panchayats ,which led them into trouble.
The land demanded was agricultural land. Farmers were given compensation and jobs (few)
in Tata's project, but the land served as a fixed asset for the farmers.Fulfilling the demand meant disturbing of ecosystem and this would serve as example for other companies.
But ,the establishment of TATA's project in Singur could have accelerated the growth of state,as
TATA is famous for its development vision, mission and ethics.
Prashant's question:"If TATA can afford to buy land, eletricity and water from state, then why does Govt. provide them for free to the TATA's ?"
